Sometimes the problem isn't a lack of ambition. It's that you don't let yourself want more.
You can work hard, study and keep developing, and still constantly feel that it isn't good enough.
There's always a next step. The next diploma. A higher income. A better job. More clients. One more certificate.
And even after reaching the goal, a strange feeling remains: "Fine. Now what?"
Sometimes what lies behind this is not a lack of motivation but difficulty feeling your own desire.
- What do I want myself, rather than my parents, my partner, society or social media algorithms?
- What kind of life do I really want?
- What does success mean to me?
- And what would happen if I let myself want more, or less?
In Gestalt therapy we pay a lot of attention to how a person relates to their own desire: how they notice it, move towards it, stop, feel afraid, give it up or allow themselves to act.
Fulfilment is not only about productivity.
It's also about the feeling: "This is my life. I have my place in it. I understand why I do what I do."
Sometimes therapy isn't about pushing yourself to move faster. It's about finally hearing where you actually want to go.
